Bay Hallowell is an artist based in Santa Barbara, CA who specializes in printmaking, predominantly mono prints (one-of-a-kind works of art on paper).  Her goal is to involve viewers in musings about Life’s Big Questions by engaging them in the contemplation of intriguing visual events.  Her themes are often serious, yet spontaneity and playfulness permeate her working process.

Bay graduated from Bennington College (VT) where she studied Painting and Drawing with Jules Olitski and Paul Feeley and Art Criticism with Clement Greenberg, Lawrence Alloway, and Peter Stroud.

Soon after, she was hired by The Carnegie Museum of Art (Pittsburgh, PA) to create and manage Education programs at the Museum, which she did for eighteen years. After earning an M.A. in Museum Education at the University of Pittsburgh, she became the Coordinator of Special Projects in the Education Department of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. In Philadelphia, she developed a variety of interdisciplinary resources for teachers based on the Museum’s collections and taught a required graduate seminar in Art Education at the Tyler School of Art (Temple University) for twelve years.

After moving to Santa Barbara, Bay studied printmaking with Siu and Don Zimmerman, Elaine LeVasseur, and Linda Taylor. Currently, she works in the Inkspots studio in Ventura, CA, and takes workshops with master printmaker Michael McCabe (Santa Fe, NM).
